I started 2020 celebrating the woman’s reunion with her daughter after a seven year custody battle. The goal was to follow the two of them through an unprecedented school year. But, instead, Kendra showed me the raw reality of being a Black, single, and formerly incarcerated woman in Poughkeepsie.
